Interiors Forum Scotland (IFS)

 

 Aims

The Interiors Forum Scotland is a unique collaborative research group established in 2005, representing all the honours degree Interior Design/Interior Architecture programmes in Scotland including:

  • Interior & Environmental Design at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design at the University of Dundee
  • Interior, Product & Furniture at Edinburgh College of Art
  • Interior Design at Glasgow School of Art
  • Interior Architecture at Napier University, Edinburgh
  • HND Interior programme at Glasgow Metropolitan College, in partnership with the BSc Interior rogramme at Glasgow Caledonian University

The IFS exists to provoke debate on the future direction and current challenges affecting the creative industries. It exists to support excellence across interior research and practice, and seeks to embed these into the learning experience of undergraduate and postgraduate students. The IFS acts as a regional authority on, and advocate for, Interior Design/Interior Architecture education, research, practice and collaboration. The IFS exists to promote a diverse agenda for Interiors from a national to an international perspective through annual conferences, publications and the development of a pro-active core curriculum of study for Interiorists.

 Objectives

We are striving to::

  • initiate annual conferences, workshops, symposia and publications which place Interior Design/Interior Architecture at the heart of critical debate
  • act as an advocate for all aspects of Scottish Interior Design/Interior Architecture undergarduate and postgraduate degree programmes
  • liaise with, advise, and share good practice with UK and international Interior organisations, academic research groups and innovative practitioners 
  • influence educational policy makers and collaborate with colleagues at secondary and further educational levels in Art & Design
  • support diversity and promote the distinctiveness of the Scottish higher education sector internationally
  • disseminate and publish the results of annual research conferences
  • enrich the learning experience of undergraduate and postgraduate students by linking research appropriately into teaching
  • foster a spirit of collaboration and sharing of good practice across national and international frameworks
  • make a significant Scottish contribution to the emerging international body of Interior Design/Interior Architecture theory and discourse
  • represent the IFS and the Scottish sector at international conferences
